Megan Bares it all: Addresses depression, alcoholism and relationship infidelity on new song "Cobra"

Megan Thee Stallion is back with her highly anticipated solo single "Cobra" and it's her most vulnerable song yet.

In the track, Megan bares it all and addresses her mental health, relationship issues, losing her parents and rumors of alcoholism.

The song is Megan's first solo song since her legal battle with rapper Tory Lanez who has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for shooting her in the foot during an altercation in 2020.

She previously released an upbeat dembow-inspired track "Bongos" with friend and fellow rapper Cardi B. But fans have been eagerly awaiting her solo return.

It has undoubtedly been a rough few years for Megan.

The rap star's mother passed away in 2019 after being diagnosed with a brain tumor. Her grandmother, with whom she shared a close bond, passed away just weeks later. Her father died when she was 15 and she has no siblings so she has navigated her fame without the support of any parental figure or close relative.

...

Additionally, Megan has been in a years-long bitter battle with her former label 1501 entertainment over what she deemed to be an unconscionable contract she signed when she was 20, with little knowledge or experience in the music industry. The contract entitled the label to the lion's share of her earnings.

The legal battle saw the label sabotaging her, allegedly leaking her music and blocking her from releasing an album or licensing her music to be used in TV shows and other opportunities. The legal issues were finally settled just last month, freeing Megan from the label for good.

She is now unsigned and funding her projects out of her own pocket.

As if that wasn't enough, Megan has faced the fury of Tory Lanez fans and pro-Tory blogs who accused her of lying on the rapper and having him unfairly sent to prison.

Barbz, the fanbase of Nicki Minaj, have also taken aim at Megan in recent years, relentlessly bullying and attacking her while Minaj herself aimed hurtful lyrics at Megan in her songs, further fueling the online attacks.

On top of all that, Megan and her long-time boyfriend Pardison "Pardi" Fontaine split following the Tory Lanez case, with Megan admitting that Pardi was "embarrassed" by the revelations about her sex life that came out during the trial.

She has no doubt been through a lot!

And fans have been anticipating her addressing her experiences in her music.

"Cobra" seems to have delivered on that expectation with Megan laying it all bare in an emotional and vulnerable track, self-produced as an independent artiste under "Hot Girl Productions".

She starts the track noting that the whole world had a front row seat to her traumatic experiences and lamented that the people close to her didn't help.
She addressed a long-standing rumor of her being an alcoholic, a rumor fueled by Nicki Minaj and her fans.

She says on the track "At night, I'm sittin' in a dark room thinkin', probably why I always end up drinkin'. Yes, I'm very depressed. How can somebody so blessed wanna slit they wrist?"

Megan also opens up about missing her parents, before dropping a hint that Pardi may have cheated on her.

"Pulled up, caught him cheatin', gettin' his dick sucked in the same spot I'm sleepin'. Lord, give me a break, I don't know how much more of this shit I can take?"

Megan undoubtedly placed a spotlight on mental health struggles, showing that even the rich and famous are not immune to depression.

The song ultimately ends on a hopeful note, with Megan declaring she's "back outside and back in motion," symbolizing her shedding her past like a Cobra shedding its skin, ready to embrace new beginnings.
