Rapper or prostitute? Nikki D criticizes Ice Spice's "Betty Boop" outfit and lackluster performance
Veteran female rapper Nikki D is calling out Ice Spice for portraying herself as a "prostitute" after the 23-year-old performed at a concert this weekend dressed in a barely there Betty Boop inspired outfit.
Ice Spice debuted the outfit as her Halloween look while on stage at Power 105.1’s Powerhouse concert in Newark, New Jersey.
As she performed, the tiny red dress could barely cover her body, riding up over her butt several times as she pulled it down repeatedly in vain.
She proceeded to twerk her bare butt to loud cheers from the crowd.
Nikki D was not impressed and took to Instagram to criticize the state of female rap.
“Oh come TF on!!! You mean to tell me, this is true talent..the Female genre of hip hop today is the ‘prostitution era’, fight me!!" the rapper wrote.
She pointed out that the crowd barely reacted to Ice Spice's music and only seemed to show interest when she turned around to twerk.
“Notice the ONLY 2x’s the crowd reacts.. during the familiar ‘munch line’ and when she turns around to show her ass!!"
Nikki D continued to criticize the "Deli" rapper's performance which she said lacked substance.
"She’s one of the top female rappers out at the “moment”.. where’s her show production, rehearsal, and for god sake PLEASE STOP singing over those studio vocals it’s not a live show at that point."
In a second post, Nikki D said her comments were not aimed solely at Ice Spice but at the state of the female rap industry as a whole. She said Ice Spice's performance simply caught her attention.
Nikki D's comments have been met with support across social media with many persons lamenting that female rappers are now more known for showing their bodies rather than for talent.
Others pointed out that those who choose to take this route are simply giving the public what they want as the public fails to support the women who are singing positive, uplifting music and not dressing provocatively.
Ice Spice has not responded to the criticism.
